The popular Langham Hotel on Eastbourne's beautiful seafront is now celebrating 40 years as a venue for bowls groups, having no less than seven bowls clubs within a two-mile radius.

The AA three-star family-run hotel has 81 bedrooms, many with magnificent views across the bay, some with four poster beds, and one with an impressive new wet room.  The comfortable bar, terrace and lounge are ideal areas to socialise and relax. The restaurant offers superb food and has recently been awarded an AA Rosette for fine dining for the second year in succession.  The West Dean Suite function room also provides the ideal space for entertainment or presentations.

The hotel goes to great lengths to ensure good quality fixtures and many groups return time and again.  Over 25 Bowls Clubs, both indoor and outdoor, stay at the Langham each year, including Clevedon, Desborough, Falcon, Whittlesey, Hertfordshire, Peterborough, Wrotham, Leicester City, Writtle, Evesham, East Bergholt, Staniforth, Waveney, Ware, Southam, Frinton and North Mymms Bowls Clubs, plus Sutton Strollers, and many more are booked for the future.

The Langham is now the main sponsor of the Eastbourne Open Bowls Tournament for men, a five-star rated event played on Cumberland Turf greens around Eastbourne, with prizes totallling more than £2,000.  This year the hotel is also sponsoring new shirts for the local Royal Sovereign Bowls Club.

In 2009 Eastbourne was officially declared the sunniest place in the UK, fully justifying its nickname - The Sunshine Coast - but there's no need to worry if it rains, as the local indoor bowls club is available so that matches can still be played.

Situated at the foot of the South Downs, we are in an ideal position for sightseeing, with easy access to Brighton, Lewes, Hastings and Rye.  The town has an excellent shopping centre, five theatres and the newly-opened Towner Art Gallery, offering something for everyone.

Kirby Muxloe Bowls Club have just left having stayed for four days at the beginning of June.  Their organiser, Betty Malyon, has already booked to return next year as their members "enjoyed themselves so much".

A few more comments from our Bowls Groups:-

"This is to say a big Thank You to you and your staff for helping us to have a very enjoyable week at Eastbourne and the help that you gave us in arranging our fixtures.  Everyone seemed happy and so far I have not had any complaints (which is very unusual).
Ron Bone, Beckenham, Bromley & District Bowling Association, July 2010

"On behalf of myself and the Watford and District Bowling Association Tourists, I would like to thank you and your staff for a wonderful week at the Langham.  I really appreciate everything that you did to make our stay enjoyable."
Roy Lawrence, President, Watford & District Bowling Association, June 2010

"We would like to thank you and your staff for making our stay with you so enjoyable, your staff were very friendly.  It was nice to have our cases and bowls bags brought up to our room.  The room was very comfortable and it was nice just to be able to sit and watch the sailing boats out of the window.  I would like to say a thank you to your chef ... the food was nice and tasty all week."
Tessa & Richard Cox, Watford & District Bowls, June 2010

"Please pass on our sincere thanks to all the hotel staff that made our Whitsun stay at the Langham such a success. Whatever was requested was always done.  Together with some good bowling fixtures, all went well."
Jim Warland, Hon Sec, Rover (Cowley) Bowls Club, May 2010
